Overview

The Physical Oceanography (PO) Lab is involved in the research of ocean electromagnetics for the US Navy, rapid intensification of hurricanes and tropical cyclones, biophysical interactions in the ocean, ocean circulation, and oil spill propagation. The PO Lab is implementing new ocean technologies and computational methods, in collaboration with the University of Miami, German Aerospace Center, Bedford Institute of Oceanography, Columbia University, University of Rhode Island, and University of Hawaii. A planned new direction of research is ocean and environmental geoengineering.

The PO Lab provides advanced scientific training to students. Graduate students work together with professionals in the field and get trained in computational fluid dynamics methods. Student papers are presented at major national and international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.

The PO Lab projects have been funded by the US Federal Government, State of Florida, and private industries. Over the last five years, the research funding has been more than $12 million in total.
